Cancer prevention
1 in 3 Australian cases of cancer can be prevented
Cancer prevention education
Some cancers are random. But that doesn’t mean you can’t reduce your risk. Your cancer risk comes down to a combination of your genes, your environment and lifestyle choices. And with research showing that 1 in 3 Australian cases of cancer can be prevented though lifestyle changes, it’s clear that cancer prevention projects can have a huge impact.
Our cancer prevention campaigns
As well as funding ground-breaking research, Tour de Cure also funds a range of cancer prevention projects. This includes seminars, workshops and our school programs.
How you can reduce your cancer risk
There’s a range of measures you can take to lower your chances of being diagnosed with cancer. This includes:
Keeping a healthy body weight
Being sun smart
Staying active
Cutting back on alcohol
Eating a healthy, balanced diet
Not smoking
With around 2 in 3 Australians being diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they are 70, sun safety is particularly critical. As well as leading a sun-smart lifestyle, regular skin check-ups are an easy cancer prevention strategy, with early detection greatly improving skin cancer outcomes.
Staying sun-smart on tour
If you’re cycling with Tour de Cure, there’s a lot of time outdoors, both when you are on tour and when you are training in preparation. Always be sun-smart when you are riding and remember to get regular skin check-ups.
