How we work with schools
Cancer prevention starts with education
How Tour de Cure works with schools
School visits are a cornerstone of each Tour de Cure cycle tour – and the big reason why our tours are always held in school terms. We know that 1 in 3 cancers are preventable, and that’s why we have a big focus on educating children to demystify cancer and help kids to learn what they can do to stay healthy.
The Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy program
We want to reach as many children as possible. On our tours, school visits are always a highlight, with riders meeting the kids and giving a short, fun-filled presentation on the Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy program, as well as distributing cancer awareness packs.
The program demystifies cancer and helps kids to learn about some of the risk factors for cancer, and the healthy lifestyle choices they can make like:
Sun exposure
Being overweight
A lack of physical activity
Eating too much red and processed meat
Not eating enough fruit and vegetables
Drinking too much alcohol
Smoking
