The 2009 Route

In 2009 the Tour de Cure will take on the challenge of riding from Brisbane to Cairns, a 1555km journey along some of the prettiest and most dangerous roads in Australia.

Having ridden from Brisbane to Sydney in 2007 and Melbourne to Sydney in 2008, this ride will complete a journey of 3,935 kilometres along the majestic east coast of Australia and give us the opportunity to share our goal of finding a cure for cancer with the warm and generous people of Queensland.

For those who are wondering "why ride north to Cairns instead of south to Brisbane?" the answer is simple, during the winter months a southerly wind prevails and the temperatures should be a very pleasant 22 – 26 degrees.

For those that have not yet travelled this section of Australia it is indeed a wonderful place full of interesting characters and beautiful scenery. There is no better way to see this than by bike. Our days will be long but rewarding.

Tour de Cure will provide daily progress updates in the Tour Blog – feel free to leave messages of support for the team, or make a donation!
