In May 2007, what started over a coffee between two mates quickly progressed to three friends registering Tour de Cure as an Australian charity and the launch of an inaugural cycling tour.

Since then Tour de Cure has annually cycled through either Queensland, New South Wales, SA, ACT or Victoria.

Each year the Board and team at HQ have challenged themselves to plan more challenging routes to reach ambitious fundraising targets. Since 2012, the team on Signature Tours have been raising at least $2 million per annual tour.  In 2012, Tour de Cure held their inaugural 'Cancer Awareness for Country Kids' Tour in Victoria that aimed to not only raise funds to find a cure for cancer but improve the shocking cancer statistics in regional Australia. Since then, Country Tours have now been run in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. They are an important part of the Tour de Cure calendar to achieve awareness and award much-needed funds to organisations in regional communities acting in the fight against cancer.

Tour de Cure as an organisation has also evolved. What began as a means to raising funds to award to beneficiary projects has become a vehicle for supporting those living with cancer and their families and spreading a message of prevention through being fit, healthy and happy.

The Tour de Cure Board is now looking to its next step-change which is to shine a laser focus on advancing breakthroughs towards a cure for cancer. The organisation will do what it does best – ride and raise funds and through its tender process identify some key research groups or individuals that are close to or working towards a significant breakthrough in a cure.
