About Us
Tour de Cure origins
After finishing a ride back in October 2006, Geoff Coombes and Gary Bertwistle shared a coffee and chatted. As the chat went on, the topic turned to how they could combine their passion for cycling and contributing to a worthwhile charity.
What started as a coffee between two mates led to Tour de Cure’s registration as an Australian charity and the inaugural tour, in May 2007. The Tour is now into its third year and has raised over a $1million.
2007 – Brisbane to Sydney 1,175km $284,179 raised
A team of 29 people, along with corporate Australia’s support, cycled 1,175km from Brisbane to Sydney and raised $284,179. With such an overwhelming response from corporate and community interests, Australia Tour de Cure’s momentum grew.

In March 2008, less than 10 months after our inaugural tour, Tour de Cure left Melbourne for Sydney on our 2nd tour. A team of 33, again with community and corporate Australia’s support, battled the hills and weather to cycle 1,205km and raise $604,664.

Where the money raised goes
Tour de Cure strategically identifies and funds annual cancer research, treatment, education and awareness projects. We appreciate the support and generosity of corporate and community Australia as they continue to offer pro bono or charity rates for our tour.
Tour de Cure, has been able to safely and effectively conduct our annual tours (feeding, housing and managing teams of up to 33 people) and donate 63% of all funds raised to key cancer projects.
